It can often be overwhelming when presented with all the wheel refurbishment options. In this blog, we unveil Maidenhead’s wheel refurbishment options. Different wheels may require a different wheel refurbishment process. Factors affecting this include the age of wheel, type of wheel, quality of previous repairs, and of course, the customers’ requirements. Below, we’ll provide an overview of the different types of wheel refurbishment we offer as well as detailing which option may best suit your wheels.
Face Lift
This is one of Maidenhead’s more popular wheel refurbishment options. We know how much our customers rely on their cars being on the road. Our popular ‘face lift’ option provides a quick turnaround time with the refurbishment process normally being completed in a day. As well as having a quick turnaround time, this option is also the most cost effective. The process includes, removal of the tyres, a thorough clean of the whole wheel, removal of any damage and then recoating of the face. The tyres are then refitted and balanced. We understand that this option may not suit everyone. However, it gives the face of the wheel a new lease of life bringing it back to as if it were new. This option can normally be achieved on cars 0-6+ years old depending on the condition of the substrate and how well the wheel has been maintained.
Face and Inside
Our second option is a full refurbishment of both the face and the inside of the barrel. This will revitalise the whole wheel giving it that fresh-from-the-showroom look again. The time taken often depends on the current condition of the substrate. If corroded or lacquer is peeling from the wheel, then the wheel will need to be stripped back to metal before recoating to the desired finish. This can take around 2-3 days to complete. A newer wheel may not require such an intrusive process. This means a faster turnaround time can be achieved all whilst maintaining the same standard and getting your vehicle back on the road quicker.
Diamond Cut
A lot of wheels we see today have what is called a ‘diamond cut’ finish. If you’ve ever seen a wheel that has a polished metal effect, then it would more than likely have a diamond cut finish. This is an extra step within the refurbishment process and is combined with either option above. The wheel is placed on a lathe and the metal is cut back until all the damage is removed giving you a bright shiny wheel once again. As you can imagine, the extra step inevitably adds on a small amount of time to the refurbishment process. Some wheels will only come with a certain amount of cuttable life built into the wheel. We therefore may ask for pictures or alternatively, for you to pop in for a preliminary consultation. From there we can accurately gauge the best refurbishment option to get your wheels back to how they once were.
