Are you looking to sell your vehicle but the wheels look worn out? Did you scrape your pristine new car against a curb? Or maybe it’s time to return your vehicle to the leasing company? Our ‘face lift’ refurbishment option might be just what you need!
Why Choose a ‘Face Lift’?
Your wheels significantly impact the aesthetics and overall feel of your vehicle. Over time, they can become curbed, chipped, or corroded, reducing your car’s appeal and resale value. At Maidenhead Tyres and Autocare, we understand that not every wheel requires a full-blown refurbishment.
Think of it like fixing a dent in your car door panel. Instead of repainting the entire vehicle, only the damaged section and surrounding area are repaired and resprayed. We apply the same repair technique to our ‘face lift’ refurbishment option, resulting in a wheel with a gleaming, fully refurbished face and a thoroughly cleaned barrel (inside).
When to Opt for a ‘Face Lift’?
Before diving into the ‘face lift’ process, let’s understand when this method produces excellent results. Severe corrosion, often seen on older wheels, and excessive paint or lacquer bubbling are situations where a ‘face lift’ might not be suitable. These issues indicate that the substrate is likely unstable and needs to be fully removed and rebuilt.
However, if your vehicle is between 0-6 years old or kept in a garage most of the time, your wheels are likely in good enough condition for a face lift.
Our Process
Here’s how we perform our ‘face lift’ wheel refurbishment:
- Preparation: We strip the wheel from the tyre and remove the valve stem.
- Inspection: We check the wheel for any buckles before giving it a thorough clean.
- Damage Repair: We meticulously prepare the wheel’s face, repairing any damage using sandpaper, filler or weld.
- Surface Preparation: We gently key up the face in a sandblaster, readying it for paint.
- Painting: Using our state-of-the-art robot, we prime, then paint the entire wheel’s face back to the OE colour or the customer’s desired colour.
- Lacquering: We apply a gloss, satin, or matte lacquer to the entire face of the wheel.
- Curing: We heat the wheel to 60 degrees, let it cool down, then refit and rebalance the tyre.
Our process restores the wheel to its original glory and often allows for a quicker turnaround compared to a complete strip and rebuild. This not only gets your vehicle back on the road swiftly but also saves you money! Note that for colour changes, we recommend a full refurbishment of both the face and the inside barrel.
Lastly, if your wheels have a polished looking metal face, they’re likely diamond cut. Our ‘face lift’ process can be used in conjunction with our diamond cutting process. Stay tuned for more details on our diamond cut refurbishment option!
